The World Economic Forum (WEF) recently released a paper that explains how nations can and need to invest more into alternative proteins as a replacement for normal meats, in a bid to meet climate change goals by 2030. The paper uses Israel as a model example as to how the transition should be replicated around the world.

Published in May, the WEF’s document titled, “Creating a Vibrant Food Innovation Ecosystem through Alternative Proteins,” was written to highlight “the essential role governments play in propelling progress in alternative proteins and takes a detailed look at how Israel and other countries are creating a collaborative and dynamic food-tech innovation ecosystem.”

The authors – Dror Bin, Chief Executive Officer, Israel Innovation Authority; Sebastian Buckup, Head of Network and Partnerships, Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution; Member of the Executive Committee, World Economic Forum; Bruce Friedrich President and Founder, The Good Food Institute (GFI) – begin the whitepaper by stating how imperative it is for nations to ramp up their transition to more ‘sustainable’ practices pronto, with 2030 less than 6 years away.
